About the Sound Map of Salsa Music in NYC

Sursystem Magazine 08 - Sound Map of Salsa Music in NYC is a project that originated during the summer of 2022 through the Open Air College program by the Brooklyn Library. Inspired by the history of salsa music in New York City, the Sursystem Collective created a sound map to showcase its origins and evolution. This project soon evolved into the publication of Sursystem Magazine 08. A multi-page publication featuring the Sound Map centerfold. The magazine is currently in New York City and can be acquired at our pop-ups or through our store.

About the Sursystem magazine

The Sursystem magazine was born in Cali, Colombia, almost 20 years ago, and has always published musical themes, mestizaje (cultural), and globalization, concepts that are present in this eighth edition. It is an honor to publish in New York on a topic that is totally native to this city, plus Salsa music and its dance connect us with our origins and with the immigrants who came before us and who created this cultural sound. Something that continues to happen not only here but also in any city in the world where Salsa is heard and danced.
